Transpacific Alliance Overview

Monroe-Sheridan Foreign Law Office has formed an alliance with Hecht Law PC in San Francisco. By combining Andrew Hecht’s deep experience in M&A transactions and venture financings with Reid Monroe-Sheridan’s experience with corporate and commercial deals in Japan, the firms are able to offer select clients joint engagements providing full, bilingual, on-the-ground service in both Japan and the United States, including representation in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), venture financings and commercial matters.  In these engagements, Reid Monroe-Sheridan and Andrew Hecht offer the experience and cross-border client service typically only provided by international law firms, enhanced by the attention, dedication and loyalty of independent practitioners.

Reid Monroe-Sheridan

Based in Tokyo, Reid Monroe-Sheridan has experience working on a broad range of international transactions with a Japan nexus, including representing public and private Japanese companies in international M&A transactions, representing or advising public and private U.S. companies in commercial transactions with Japanese counterparties, and advising Japanese investors in U.S. venture capital fund investments.

In addition to practicing law as a registered foreign lawyer in Japan, Reid is as an Associate Professor at Keio Law School, one of Japan’s top-ranked law schools. Reid is fluent in Japanese and has previously taught law school courses in Japanese on global capital markets and international corporate transactions at the University of Tokyo.

Prior to establishing his own law practice, Reid worked at the New York and Tokyo offices of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where he gained experience at one of the world’s top-ranked law firms for M&A and capital markets matters.

Andrew Hecht

Based in San Francisco, California, Andrew Hecht has deep experience in M&A transactions and venture financings, with a particular focus on technology companies.  Andrew actively represents public and private companies in M&A transactions, on both the buy-side and the sell-side.  He has successfully completed deals with many of the world’s largest and most sophisticated private equity firms and technology companies, such as Google and Microsoft.  In addition, Andrew has represented investment funds and companies in dozens of seed, early and late stage ventures financings, both in the United States and abroad.  As an active participant in the Silicon Valley deal environment, Andrew brings insights into market terms, trends and practices that are not always available in Japan.

Andrew has significant Japan experience, having worked on a variety of international M&A and capital markets transactions with Japanese parties during three years at the Tokyo office of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP.  He also spent time in the firm’s New York and Palo Alto offices, where he was involved in numerous cross-border M&A and financing transactions.
